full time IT Systems Trainer

at Sustainable Harvest in East Africa

Sustainble Harvest is a social enterprise that sources and imports specialty coffees from the finest producers around the world. We create transparent and sustainable supply relationships, investing in training for farmers and ensuring that coffee arrives reliably in its highest quality state to roasters. Our approach builds direct, transparent market linkages for coffee growers in Mexico, Central and South America, and East Africa, while investing in training and management systems to improve their ability to produce a better quality coffee.

The company’s nonprofit organization, Sustainable Harvest at Origin Africa, is based in Tanzania. Operations in Tanzania focus on coffee development and the implementation of quality improvement initiatives for small-holder coffee farmers in the region.

Our newest project focuses on the development of a coffee tracking system in Northern Tanzania. The system will track coffee from the farm to port, and collect important data from each step along the way. The web-based system will be updated via iphones in the field, ensuring an up-to-date record of each coffee lot to increase efficiencies and control along the entire supply chain.

Sustainable Harvest at Origin/Africa is looking for a committed, creative, and enthusiastic person to successfully implement this coffee tracking system in the field. The IT Systems Trainer will work closely with our team in the United States and Mexico to tailor the system design to one producer group. S/he will test the system on the ground and work creatively to solve problems that may arise in the pilot phase. S/he will also train group leaders to use the system. The IT Systems Trainer must have superb cross-cultural communication skills and patience to serve as the link between system developers in the United States and system users – the coffee producers in Tanzania.
