What is the 1%CLUB?
“When everybody invests 1% of their income, time and expertise we can solve poverty”. With this idea the 1%CLUB was founded. The 1%CLUB (www.1procentclub.nl) is an online community for small scaled development projects where the general public, companies, societies and schools can contribute 1% of their income, time and expertise directly towards the project of their choice.
The 1%CLUB offers an online platform to people in developing countries to present their project proposal to alleviate poverty. All the projects are directly connected to the millennium goals. The 1%Members from all over the world can read the project proposals online and decide which projects they like to support directly with 1% of their money, time or knowledge. The project manager keeps his or her supporters updated on the progress of the project by blogs, photos and videos.
Since April 2008 the 1%CLUB website runs as a pilot in the Netherlands. The Dutch community of 2.000 1%members raised over €100.000 and financed 30 projects out of the 100 projects in many different developing countries.
1%CLUB Manager Nairobi
Because of the success in the Netherlands we will be launching the international version of the 1%CLUB website by the end of this year. The international version will be managed by 1%CLUB Kenya in Nairobi. Therefore we are looking for a manager to set up the 1%CLUB organization in Nairobi.
What will be your main tasks and responsibilities?
- Set up and manage the 1%CLUB Kenya organization
- Marketing and public relationships
- Network with NGO’s, International Donors and ICT and Web industry in East-Africa
- Financial administration of 1%CLUB Kenya
- Supervision and coaching of somebody who will do the quality assurance and monitoring of the development projects.
- Organize a conference about ICT for Development / International Development 2.0 in Nairobi
- Report to the 1%CLUB in the Netherlands
Profile
- Academic level / degree
- Good organizational and leadership skills;
- Work experience of 3 – 5 years
- Fluent in English / Kiswahili
- Affinity with Internet / Web 2.0 and International Development
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Proven track record of financial management
- Proactive personality
- Preferably available as soon as possible
